My blooming Creativity

I felt as if for the past few years, I had a Creative block, however after beginning a new job, I noticed that my Mojo is coming back to me.  I support a lady who is studying a Masters Degree in Visual Communication.  She is specialising in Children's book illustration.  The course is really good and I am learning a lot and it is helping me to push forward with my own illustrations.  I love Collage and have been using my Gelli Prints to create interesting collages. I have also created a range of vibrant A5/A6 Handmade Greetings Cards which I have listed on Etsy. Here are a few examples:-

Make do and Mend

I would never buy another leather settee again!  I have had my Bright Red Leather Settee for about ten years now and although it is still structurally sound, on one side it looks as if it has leather leprosy.  First of all there were a couple of little spots of dirt, caused by my hair oil but now those spots have spread and degraded and look so dirty and are actually sticky.

I contemplated throwing it out and buying a new one, however as I said, it is still sound also I have NO MONEY so I decided to make a fitted cover for it and in the ethos of Make do and Mend, make it out of old discarded jeans.

I started with the arms of the settee, and fitted their sleeves using different patches in contrast.

I still have to make the back for it in order to fit it but unfortunately I haven't got enough jeans left so I will have to put the word out again and get some more from my friends.  I just have a few seams to sew to attach the front piece to the sleeves.   I am very happy with my creation as I think it makes my settee look much better.

Aevin’s Regimen for the Worlds Largest Afro

Aevin’s Regimen for the Worlds Largest Afro

I wish I could get my Afro that big!!

Woman's four-and-a-half-foot afro is the world's largest… and takes her two days to wash

  • Aevin Dugas has spent the last 14 years growing her hair
  • Record-breaking natural afro has entered Guinness Book of Records
  • It takes two days to dry and five bottles of conditioner to get it in shape

Proud of her record-breaking afro, Aevin Dugas says her hair is inspiring legions of women to ditch chemical straighteners and 'go natural'.
The 37-year-old, whose hair entered the Guinness Book of Records at 4ft 4ins around, says everyone from toddlers to grandmothers are following in her footsteps.
Aevin said: 'At one time I strived to get hair that was bone straight and now all I want is it big and poofy'.
